Describe a recent event that made you happy.
You should say:
- when and where it was
- who was involved
- what happened
- and explain why it made you happy.
The following description contains the kind of phrases that native speakers (like me) really use. I've underlined the best vocabulary.
- When and where: my friend's birthday party, last Saturday evening, we went for a meal in an Italian restaurant.
- Who: there were about 10 of us, he invited some close friends and work colleagues, most of them were people I've known since university.
- What happened: we met at the restaurant, I gave my friend a present and a birthday card, we ordered some food, while we ate dinner everyone chatted, after the main course the waiter brought out a cake and we sang 'Happy Birthday', everyone went home quite late.
- Why it made me happy: it was great to get together with old friends, I had some interesting conversations, it was a good opportunity to catch up with what my friends had been up to, it was a nice way to wind down after a hard week at work, the food was delicious, I went home feeling full after a fantastic meal.

Hi Soodabeh,
Well done for getting such a great score in speaking. Maybe you need some lessons with a teacher who can help you with your weaknesses in writing.
Keep working and you'll get there!

You just need to keep practising and working hard. Try to follow the daily lessons on this site, use the Cambridge IELTS books for test practice, and try to find a teacher or native speaker who can check your work, correct your mistakes, and help you to improve.

Posted by: Xing | January 31, 2012 at 11:10
Hi Xing,
It's difficult for me to help you because I don't know what your individual problems are. It would be a good idea to take a few lessons with a private teacher who can analyse what you are doing wrong.
Posted by: Simon | February 01, 2012 at 15:55
Hi Simon,
Thanks for your reply. I will try to do what you have suggested.
Is there any possibility to send you a piece of my writing to get your response on that?
Thanks
Posted by: Xing | February 03, 2012 at 00:38
Hi Xing,
I'm afraid I can't check your writing because it wouldn't be fair if I helped one person and not everyone else.

Hi simon,
It is the first time I have seen your website, it looks very interesting to me.
I Want to discuss my reading problem. Actually I need 7 band each. I always lack with reading some times 6, 6.5 or 5.5. I dont think my vocab is very low but I feel the paragraphs very lengthy as compare to practice books.
especially I get stucked with the third passage. I feel problem in multiple choice, paragraph matching and filling the blanks.
It just depend upon the topic sometimes I do score very well. please help me how I can improve it. I have booked my exam on 7th of September.
Also suggest me at least how much time I should devote for the preparation.

thank you for your response to questions.
I've read your site recently, about speaking part 2, describe an object and event, these are very useful and easy to understand, thank you very much.
However, I can understand easily it makes me doubtful if it works for me to get band 7?
thank you so much.
