Last week I asked you to choose two main things to write about for your overview (summary) of the graph below.
Here are my choices:
- The first thing you should notice is that the car was easily the most popular form of transport in each of the years shown on the graph.
- Secondly, you could contrast the rising trends for car and train use with the falling trend for bus users.
Here's my overview paragraph describing the two points above:
It is clear that the car is by far the most popular means of transport for UK commuters throughout the period shown. Also, while the numbers of people who use the car and train increase gradually, the number of bus users falls steadily.
PS. Sorry today's lesson is so late!
Thank you Simon!
It's so useful for me in task 1.

Hi Simon,
Can I just say " the number of people using the car increase gradually" instead of " the number of people who use the car...."
Thanks

hi simon
1. what is the difference between, "the numbers of people" and "the number of people"
2. As you have stated, the number of bus users falls( why it is not fall instead of falls as 'the number of bus users' is plural)

Hi dear Simon ..
Firstly , I would like to thank you for these excellent lessons ..
I have a couple of question to you ..
1. In your overview paragraph , you have used "present simple" .. However the graph contains years like 1970,1980,1990,2000,2010 that refers to past and years like 2020 , 2030 which shows future .. Could you please make it clear ?
2. What is the difference between "the number of people" and "the numbers of people" ? should we use plural verb after both of them ?
Thanks for your attention

Hello Simon .. Thank you so much for preparing lessons for us .
What do you think about my introduction ?
The line graph compares the daily use of bus , car and train by Uk commuters over a period of 60 years from 1970 to 2030 .

Thanks in advance,

The graph compares the number of users on 3 different transportation systems during a period from 1970 to 2030. In the next paragraphs will offer some observations about it.
The cars data shows the highest values. Between 2000 and 2030 the data of users reported and projected is significantly higher versus the 1970s. The expectations for the future users are optimistic because present a notable increase in the number of clients. Furthermore, more than 7 million commuters were on 2000 and for 2030 the graph shows notable projections with approximately 9 million car users.
On the other hand, Bus data as a transportation media, presented the highest level on 1970 (approximately four million users) but for 2030 the projections of users are 1 million less than the beginning. This data indicate than this transport system might be affected by the preferences of people for a car.
Finally, the data for train clients shows no changes between 2000 and 2010. After 2010 the data shows an increase in users (roughly one million clients more than 2010). The projections of users data from 2013 to 2030, in comparison with 2010, looks positive because expected one million of new clients.
