Hi Simon,
We do feel the matter and we are grateful to you as you do great works for us. However,It is really helpful when you give a common answer for all questions from us that we should know.

Dear Simon

your blog help me a lot on my way of ielts, especially for writing. i have obtained your E-book which is really good for idea back-up. i hope that you can tell me how and where i can find topic-realted vocabulary, i wish in the future you can save some topic related vocabulary in your E-books and also hope you can post some Synonyms for those frequently appeared words. but anyaway, i try to read all your essay and write down some real good words for my essay. finally, i want to say that you have done a such good job for all the candidates.

Dear Simon
I've heard that there was a candidate in china get the reading score reviewed from 4 to 9 due to the 'administrative error' in accordance with the respond from the British Council. I am wondering if you can kindly explain what is an administrative error within the ielts system?

Describe an antique or some other old thing that your family has kept for a long time.
what it is
how (or when) your family first got this thing
how long your family has kept it
and explain why this thing is important to your family.
• There are many old things in my family which belong to my parents and great grand parents
• There are some old brass utensils and trunks and some articles(items) of furniture like an old round wooden table, a chair and so on
• But here I would like to talk about an article which once belonged to my great great grandmother.
• It must be more than 150 years old.
• It is a beautiful set of gold jewellery
• It is a family heritage
• It has been handed down from generation to generation in my family
• It is a gold necklace with matching earrings
• My mother wears it on special family occasions
• Otherwise my father keeps it in a bank locker
• It is studded with rubies and emeralds
• You know, ma’am, the gold is so pure that it still shines like new.
• And the design is evergreen.
• Once my mother went to a goldsmith to get a similar set made for my aunt.
• But the goldsmith said that the design could not be replicated as it was hand-made.
• Now the sets available in the market are machine made.
• It goes with all types of dresses.
• My mother wears it with saris and suits.
• Whenever my mother wears it she gets a lot of compliments.
• Recently my mother wore it on my cousin’s wedding.
• She wore it with a red and green sari.
• As this set has rubies and emeralds which are red and green, so this set complemented the sari so much that mom was looking awesome.

Someone entered the wrong score in a computer.

Good morning simon, thank you very much for creating this site. It means alot for every body to learn from this. I have got one topic which is this if u can write about advantages and disadvantages topics that would be great tc.

some companies are closing their office s one day per week to save energy (gas, electricity). What are the advantages and disadvantages of this?

Hi Simon,

I have got two questions.
1) Because IELTS is a test organised by Cambridge Uni, does that mean I should keep the spelling in British style? For example, center instead of centre, -ize instead of -ise (realize, realise)? Any point loose for Us style spelling?
2) As for the date, is that true all the following formats are correct?
14th March 2011
14 March 2011
March 14th 2011
March 14 2011

Thanks !

All standard forms of native English are accepted in IELTS so American spelling is fine.

All those date forms are also acceptable.

Hi Simon, it's Rebecca from China.
I just wanna say thank you so much for doing all this for us. :)

Dear Simon,
Please answer the following questions if possible:

1- which books are for more than band 7:
your opinion about the following books:

A- IELTS Plus 2 and 3
B- IELTS Trainer
C- Ready for IELTS

And which vocabulary book you highly recommend your students to target band 7 in IELTS?
Thank you in advance for your reply.
Good Luck

Hi Simon,

I'm curious about whether using metaphors in Writing or Speaking Task will affect the mark.
I try not to use any slang.

But I wonder whether use of metaphor is acceptable in IELTS? Because I think I can see them in Reading passages.

Thank you
