Hi Simon, and everyone
I'm taking an IELTS test next Saturday, and I'm really confused right now. I've learned from this blog for a long time because I find it very helpful. However, today, one of my teachers at school said that she did not understand why Simon could band his essay 9, they were too simple. But I still believe in the methods of Sir Simon. Just saying.

When I rate my essay I rate it at least 7 . But when some one else score they feel to score 6. Even the same essay give it to different examiners and I am sure everyone score differently. This is what is called IELTS and that is what happened to me over the last 6 years.

Hi Luclac,

I think you teacher does not really have an idea about IELTS scores. How can she say Simon's essay is too simple. I think Simon's essays are brilliant and should be marked as band 10 if there is one. Simon's essays are better than some of the model answers in Cambridge IELTS books. They are easy to read as well as with lots of good ideas and vocabulary. Some people think good writing should be difficult to read and packed with unusual words and complicated sentences. This type of essays certainly give examiners a headache. It does not surprise me that those essays are marked with a lower score.

Hi luclac,

I have to agree with Jing (3 comments below yours). Many students and teachers have the wrong idea about what 'good writing' is.

My speaking topic was interesting conversation you did with some one .
When?
Where ?
Is it useful for u ?
Dear Rosie I vl snd u the writing topic as soon as .really

Hi Simon!
I just want to express my gratitude for you have greatly helped me in my writing tasks! Especially task 1. I've taken the IELTS exam 3 times already and my first two attempts landed me with a writing score of 6.5. I needed a 7, so I read all your posts from the start and followed all your advice and techniques then I took the october 2 exam. Guess what? I finally achieved the score I was aiming for! All thanks to you. It was worth all the time I spent practicing how to write a good task 1 essay by incorporating your writing style (I specifically had difficulties writing a report) with my own and it worked. More power to you Simon. Keep it up :)

Mani ,
Thank you so much for letting me know about ur speaking topic.I dont know if they will ask the same question to me or not hopefully they will:)

I will be waiting for your post ;)
