You might find it useful to read a real process description from this website about insulation manufacturing. The extract below looks very similar to a paragraph from an IELTS essay!
For glass wool, the raw materials are sand, limestone and soda ash, as well as recycled off-cuts from the production process. The raw materials are melted in a furnace at very high temperatures, typically between 1,300°C to 1,500°C. The smoke created during this process is filtered and flue gases are cleaned to minimise any environmental impact. The droplets of melt exiting the furnace are spun into fibres. Small quantities of binding agents are added to the fibres. The mineral wool is then hardened in a curing oven at around 200°C. The mineral wool is cut to the required size and shape.
Task:
Can you find the passive verbs in the paragraph above? Can you improve the paragraph by adding some sequencing words (firstly, then etc.)?
Recycled, melted, created, filtered, cleaned, spun, added, hardened, cut, required.....
Thank you very much, Simon

2. For glass wool, the raw materials are sand, limestone and soda ash, as well as recycled off-cuts from the production process. At the first stage of the process, the raw materials are melted in a furnace at very high temperatures, typically between 1,300°C to 1,500°C. Then, the smoke created during this process is filtered and flue gases are cleaned to minimise any environmental impact. After that, the droplets of melt exiting the furnace are spun into fibres. Next, small quantities of binding agents are added to the fibres. The mineral wool is then hardened in a curing oven at around 200°C. Finally, the mineral wool is cut to the required size and shape.

For glass wool, the raw materials are sand, limestone and soda ash, as well as recycled off-cuts from the production process. First of all, the raw materials are melted in a furnace at very high temperatures, typically between 1,300°C to 1,500°C. At the same time, the smoke created during this process is filtered and flue gases are cleaned to minimise any environmental impact. In the next stage, the droplets of melt exiting the furnace are spun into fibres. Then, small quantities of binding agents are added to the fibres. After that, the mineral wool is ((then)) hardened in a curing oven at around 200°C. Finally, the mineral wool is cut to the required size and shape.
PS. In the picture I couldn't see the process of filtering the smoke and flue gases, so I have used " at the same time." Is that alright?

Dear Simon,
Thank you very much for your useful lesson.
I have a question regarding the word "between" used in the essay. It is introduced that : "The raw materials are melted in a furnace at very high temperatures, typically between 1,300°C to 1,500°C."
Would you please tell us how should we use this word in our essays. I think it could be ' between 1300 and 1500" not "between 1300 to 1500".
I think we can write "The row materials are melted in a furnace at a high temperature, typically in a range from 1300 to 1500"
Regards,
Mahdi

Hi Mahdi,
Good point! I recommend that you always write "between... and".
You might see / hear native speakers occasionally using "between... to", but I'd say that "and" is better.

Charanjit
An overview is required in Task 1. There is no requirement for a conclusion, so don't do one. If you don't know what an overview is, look at Simon's samples and it is the second paragraph.

Dear Sir,
I use lots of connectors in writing task 1(However, On the other hand, similarly, Whereas) and it sometimes puzzle me. It is a good practice to use these connectors. How much these impact the scoring. My requirement is 7 band each.
