Here's a quick exercise, featuring some very fast speech! But don't worry; most native speakers don't talk like this, and you'll never hear such fast speech in an IELTS test. I just thought you might like a challenge!
Fill the gaps in the transcript below.
The need to sleep is one of the strongest _____ _____ we have, one of the few that we really can't control; and the fact is, you can die faster from _____ _____ than _____ _____. So it is time to investigate the science behind this thing that we do for a _____ of our lives.
Even though the _____ _____ will spend 25 years of their life asleep, there's no scientific _____ as to why exactly we do it. One thing we know for sure: our _____ definitely think that sleep is important.

Dear Simon,
I need some advice for listening test.
WHAT IS THE EFFECTIVE METHOD IN THE TIMES GIVEN DURING THE LISTENING TEST?
Of course you suggest to underline the keywords before starting the recording. It is difficult underling all keywords in multiple choice, for each question and its four answers!approximately we will be given 4 or 5 questions accompany with 4 choice. So, we have 25 half-lines to look and find keywords. all must be done in approximately 40 seconds!
The next struggling part is to pair up information, which one set is illustrated in a box. what is the profitable strategy in this part?
I cannot manage these parts well.
I would be grateful if you give me some advice.
Best

Strange, I got it correct the first time =(((
I think it's actually quite common, for example they kinda talk like this on BBC and CNN (especially on finance and economy - those people seems to have a tendency to speak very very quickly )

Hi Simon,
I have a question concerning the spelling mistakes,
If i wrote deprevation instead of deprivation
And consenses instead of consensus
Would it be considered wrong and i lose the question score??
Thank you in advance.

Hi Soha,
In the listening test, a spelling mistake usually means that your answer is marked wrong.
The good news is that you learnt two new correct spellings from this lesson!

I know where it is from. Haha, This guy is unique, interesting and impressive. SciShow from YouTube. I tried several times and I feel ok with the speed. However, the precondition is that I am familiar with the topic before I start to listen.
