NO

TRUE

Not given

Yes:
- expenditure: spend on
- research : survey
- consist of: focus on

Yes

yes, because the Transport's expenditure changes in different ways that did by households in phaseI

yes,

Synonyms vocabulary which give the same meaning like survey=research/ consists of=focus on.

not given. because money was not mention.

Not given

sorry. i think answer is NO becasue money (expenditure) was not mention but average hours of transporting was mentioned.

I think yes is the answer

F,工n Passage is mentioned Staticed on averge Only, did'nt giving hOw much expend on $

NO

expenditure = spending = the money spent on

transport: the activity or business of carrying goods from one place to another using lorries/trucks, trains, etc.

The passage is talking about 'transport NEEDS'.

Yes

No. not a single word mentioned expenditure, or money. There is only mentioning of time and percentages.

No. There is no descriptions regarding the money spent by the households.

Not Given

Yes,
Expenditure can refer to both time and money.

Not Given - because Phase l of MIRTP is not mention in the passage.

Not given because it does not mentioned anything about transport expenditure.

No
The paragraph below says that survey is about household spent on transporting themselves and their goods; not about their expenditure (money spending) on transport.

The socio-economic survey of more than 400 households in the district indicated that a household in Makete spent, on average, seven hours a day on transporting themselves and their goods.

Not Given

No.
1 An expenditure is money spent on something. Not time.
2 `consist of` means to include something or someone. Obviously, this paragraph does not mention anything about money.

Not given.

Because the question shows a general research on household expenditure on transport.
However, the paragraph tells the exactly place " household in Makete spent"

Its not given because mirtp iz not mentioned in the question

This is tricky. But the answer is NOT GIVEN.
The question is asking if the passage mention something about the expenditure of transport which means the cost.

However the passage was talking about the time allotment or how they used their time. Just because they used the word spend and even goods does not necessarily pertains to expenditure.

if you answer is No, you're wrong because nothing is mention about the cost rather it talks about time.

not given

Not given

Reason;

Expenditure =cost
Passage did not mention about cost.

Hi Simon,

I have changed 3-4 tutors and every one of them had different opinion about the writing structure.
One of my tutor who is a current examiner in Australia, he said that the trap set by IELTS is to give own experience, which is not emphasized by any other teachers. He suggests to write a small paragraph or few sentences in the body paragraph about our own experience. It can be general even related to our own country.

Do you agree on this matter? I will appreciate your answer. Thank you

Erin

NG

Yes

Not given

The answer is No, guys
Check Cam7 test 2 passage 3 quetion 33 if u like :)))
Looking forward to simon's explanation

Erin

Of course you can write about your own experience. Every question invites you to 'use examples from your knowledge or experience'. The only thing I would add is that you probably don't want to focus too much on your life only because that may affect the overall style or tone of the essay. But a small example from your life is always fine.

My answer is No. Because as the passage "Having determined the main transport needs, possible solutions were identified.". So Phase I focused on research on transport needs, not expenditure. So even though there's nothing about money mentioned in the passage, the answer is still No, not NG.

Yes

I think, the answer is Yes, because there are synonyms words. Meaning is same.

From the indication of the survey we know nothing about the content of the survey.

So my answer is NOT GIVEN.

NOT GIVEN,AS THE PASSAGE TALKING ABOUT TIME NOT MONEY

MISUNDERSTOOD,ANSWER IS NO
THE SURVEY IS ABOUT THE TIME SPENT ON TRANSPORT, WHILE IN THE QUESTION IT SAYS THE SURVEY IS ABOUT THE EXPENDITURE ON TRASPORT

Not Given because the question didn't mention about money(expenditure). It only mentions about time.

Hi,ielts friends
think about No,contridict=OPPSlㄒE meaning
NG=didn't mentioned

No

Is not expindture the act of spending something not only money?

I mean I found that meaning if the word expenditure and therefore I think the answer is yes

no

Nop

FROM SIMON:

The correct answer given in the official Cambridge IELTS book is:

NO

I can understand why people might choose 'NOT GIVEN' as the answer - this is why I said it's a tricky one. My explanation below is based on my understanding of how the IELTS test is marked.

First, we can see that phase 1 did consist of a survey about transport. The only problem is the word "expenditure", which means "money spent".

There is no mention of the survey including anything about money, so many people would probably answer 'NO' straight away. However, other people might answer 'NOT GIVEN' - perhaps the survey also included some questions about money??

I think the answer lies in the words "consisted of" in the question. "Phase 1 consisted of" really means "Phase one was". So, does the passage say that "Phase 1 was a survey of money spent"? No, the passage tells us that Phase 1 was a survey about transport types, hours and needs.

I hope this makes sense. This is how IELTS reading logic works!

thanks for your comment. These kind of lesson;QUESTION and ANSWER,is very suitable methods for improving IELTS candidates skills specially in the reading.

Simon sir but still "mirtp" is not mentioned in the passage plz explain

No

Hi Mina,

That was my fault - the whole passage was about the 'MIRTP' project. I didn't want to include the whole passage in my lesson.

Ohk no problem sir thanks for replying me kindly help me in reading im having my exam on 27 feb

hi,it is the 7th book,as we pay more attention sentence there, this is stressed that little was known about the transport demands of the rural households,so phase 1 focused on research.....here,there is a lack research about demand that it focused on research...is it possible dear Simon?

seven hours a day nd good,it can alse be shown there

That is really tricky question and i cant catch true answer which is NO but i got the idea. Thank you for explanation.

N.G

It really helps me a lot~~ I can understand the whole essay, but it does not have good outcome. I think that's the problem. I think I couldn't understand words exactly.
