It is obvious that about 85% of boys spent much more time playing games for about 1-3 hours a day in comparing with, 75% of girls in comparing to boys spent more time chatting on internet 1-3 hours a day.

The bar chart elucidated, the proportion of time spent on internet chatting or playing games in the UK by children aged between 10 to 15 years on a typical school day, according to gender.

The proportion of time spent on internet chatting struck the highest among girls with 68%, while the boys witnessed the least with 55%. Further, girls spent 1 to 3 hours particularly on chatting which is almost half (35%) of the total hours (68%). In contrast, 8% of the girls spent their time in chatting over 4 hours as opposed to only 5% among boys. Besides, 62% of all children accounted for internet chatting and 30% of them spent about 1 to 3 hours. However, the percentage of time spent by all, boys and girls levelled at 25% each in chatting less than an hour.

Overall, playing on games console was the most popular activity among the children. We can see that boys spent a higher proportion of time in playing games than girls who preferred to chat on the internet.

It is also worthy to note that a half of these boys spend 1 to 3 hours. Whilst only 13 % among these girls pay within 1 to 3 hours, about two-thirds of the girls spend no more than one hour for this means entertainment. In addition, only a few of the males and females go beyond 4 hours- with 11% and 1% respectively.

While majority of the children are observed to allocate less than 1 hour to 3 hours on chatting on the internet, it is apparent that more females go beyond 3 to 4 hours. With estimated 30% of males and 44% of females spending more than 3 or more than 4 hours, there is notably 4% of significant difference.

Generally, young people in UK aged 10 to 15 years old spend less than an hour in both leisure options.

Overall, there is a slight upturn in playing computer game compared with chatting on the internet. it's notable that youngsters in UK prefer sendentary activities than outdoor activities. The amount of time, used for playing game accounts for 85%, of whom 45% is 1 to 3 hours daily. Additionally, boys spend approximately 7% less 1 hour than their counterparts, at 37%. Likewise, 10 % of boys spend more 4 hours, compared to 2% of girls.
There is a similar proportion between boys and girls in spending less 1 hour on having chat, at 25%. The ration of spending 1 to 3 hours is slightly 25 % and 35% respectively. About 9% of those girls chatting on the internet more 4 hours compared to the figure for 3% of boys. As a result of the figures, the total of those using time for playing game is higher than that of chatting on the internet.
