I don’t understand why so many students said the second question is true.
It is 100% false.
There was only one French mathematician said Newton was the greatest genius ever, while the others only considers Newton one of the most influential people in human history.

CORRECT ANSWERS FROM SIMON:

1. TRUE
'lays the groundwork' and 'groundbreaking' give the same idea (even if they don't mean EXACTLY the same thing) - don't "over-think" this question.

2. NOT GIVEN
We only read about one expert who says Newton was the greatest genius - we don't know what other experts think.

3. FALSE
'standing on the shoulders of giants' means that his work depended on the previous work of other scientists (don't "over-think" this question - Newton clearly relied on other people's work, and this is a kind of help).

1.TRUE
2.NOT GIVEN
3.FALSE

Dear Saimon Sir,

(2)True:By many scholars and members of the general public and even his friend said that Newton was the greatest genius who ever lived.
(3)False:He has been modest of his own achievements, and to see him further is actually by standing on the shoulders of giants.

If I am mistaken, please clarify !

Shuvo

1. Not given
Because the text mentions his principia is the groundwork but doesn't mention about its invention.

2. False
Since only one mathematician said he is the most genius person who has ever lived.

3.False
Edison's sentence in the letter means he used giants' background.

1. True
(...is one of the most important scientific books ever written. It lays the groundwork for most of classical mechanics)

2. Not Given
(Newton is considered by many scholars and members of the general public to be one of the most influential people in human history. French mathematician Joseph-Louis Lagrange often said that Newton was the greatest genius who ever lived)
=> this means many experts regard Newton as one of the most influential people NOT the greatest genius and just one person believe he was the the greatest genius. So there is no information that Many experts regard Newton as the greatest genius the world has seen.

3. False
(“If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”)

1. T groundbreaking = groundwork.
2. NG Many experts # only one expert

I picked the False for the second question. I understand that only one guy mentioned the sentence given, so the question itself saying 'Many experts...' is FALSE. Could anyone please explain me why the answer should be Not Given, rather than False? I am kinda confused right now. :(
